'Fight The Fire: Digital Reggae Conscious Roots & Dub In Nigeria 1986-91' (2xLP)

After its introduction through radio and sea routes from Jamaica, reggae in Nigeria had established a life of its own by the early 80s, and between 1986 and 1991, the homespun combo of drum machines, cheap synths and yard studios had bitten and turned Lagos just as it did Kingston in the 60s. This compilation gathers 14 riddims from that period, courtesy of the experts at Soundway: the sound is by this time digital yet organic, still limited by economic constraints that are apter now to cheapen sound: Sheila and Des Majek exemplfy the new digidub ardour with their searching harmony: "we're looking for a solution to ultimate revolution, yeah..." Other rootsayers include Pat Bio, Orits Williki, Majah Kungu, Oby Onyioha appear as the human hearthstones of said scene, as ultimated by Jeremy Spellacey.
