For the latest missive from his essential (and expansive) Elements of Life combo, Masters at Work man Louie Vega has recruited singer Lisa Fischer, a long-serving soulstress best known for her work with Luther Vandross and a string of fine solo records in the early 1990s. 'Soar' is predictably gorgeous and sun-soaked, with Fischer's sublime lead vocals riding waves of Latin percussion, jazzy guitar licks, shuffling house beats and sustained piano motifs. It comes accompanied by Vega's own 'Ivan Solo Dub', where bittersweet horn solos rise above a thicker and more densely layered take on the original groove. It's a fine alternative mix that's every bit as essential as the full vocal A-side version.
