Description

Burial has officially returned. It may be a bit disconcerting for some that the London producer hasn't altered his formula in any significant way, relying on the same shadowy, distant melancholia, the very same sample-driven, crackle-subsumed electronica that has earned him unconditional reverence and respect across the board. Fear not: his first official post-Untrue single erases any suspicion that the magic has evaporated, the spell is broken, the totally consuming viscerality of Burial's craft expired. "Stolen Dog" is an example of what has become so rare in the growing void of emotion in art, culture, music: a song unafraid to lay bear the vulnerability and undistilled sentiment of personal divulsion, taking a chance beyond the repetition of popular fill-in techniques and delivering a truly emotional music that doesn't sound like anything else on this good earth. Of course, we've come to expect nothing less from Mr. Bevan. Thankfully, our anxieties pending his reemergence have finally been absolved. Perhaps asking Burial to reinvent his sound altogether would be like asking Kerri Chandler to take the raw kicks out of his tracks or Basic Channel to tone it down a little: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
